The London, Midlands and Scottish Railway. Volume 6, The Grand Junction and North Union Railways

Jenkins, Stanley C.2017
Books, Manuscripts
Notwithstanding its importance as a major traffic artery, the West Coast Main Line was built in piecemeal fashion by a number of separate companies, including (from London northwards) the London & Birmingham Railway, the Grand Junction Railway, the Manchester & Birmingham Railway, the North Union Railway, the Lancaster & Preston Junction Railway, the Lancaster & Carlisle Railway and the Caledonian Railway. This book, the final one in a six-part series, examines two of these early lines - the Grand Junction Railway and the North Union Railway - which formed a vital connection between the pioneering London & Birmingham Railway and the northerly lines beyond Wigan and Preston.
